About the Opportunity

We are seeking a Test Engineer II to join a growing engineering team supporting the development, integration, and testing of advanced aerospace and defense systems. This role is ideal for an engineer who enjoys working in a hands-on laboratory and manufacturing environment where no two days are the same.

As a Test Engineer, you will play a critical role in ensuring complex electromechanical products meet stringent performance, quality, and customer requirements before deployment. You'll work alongside design engineering, manufacturing, quality, and program management teams to develop and execute test plans, troubleshoot hardware, analyze results, and continuously improve testing processes.

This position offers the opportunity to work on sophisticated aerospace hardware while gaining exposure to every stage of the product lifecycle—from prototype development through production testing and customer acceptance.

What You'll Do

As a Test Engineer II, you will be responsible for planning, coordinating, executing, and documenting testing activities for complex electronic and electromechanical systems. Your work will directly impact product quality, manufacturing efficiency, and customer satisfaction.

Primary Responsibilities

Plan, coordinate, and execute functional, integration, qualification, and production testing for aerospace and defense products.
Develop detailed test procedures, test plans, and work instructions to support product validation and verification activities.
Configure and integrate products with specialized test equipment, fixtures, instrumentation, software, and data acquisition systems.
Set up and operate laboratory and production test equipment while ensuring proper calibration and safe operating practices.
Collect, analyze, and interpret test data to determine product performance against engineering specifications and customer requirements.
Troubleshoot electrical, mechanical, software, and test equipment issues to identify root causes of failures and recommend corrective actions.
Work closely with Design Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Quality Assurance, and Production teams to resolve product and process issues.
Support hardware integration efforts by connecting products to test tooling, electronic instrumentation, wiring harnesses, and automated test systems.
Generate comprehensive technical documentation including:
Test procedures
Test reports
Engineering change recommendations
Failure analysis reports
Verification documentation
Participate in design reviews, readiness reviews, customer demonstrations, and technical presentations.
Assist with post-test data reduction, analysis, reporting, and verification of engineering requirements.
Recommend improvements to testing methods, equipment, automation, and manufacturing processes to reduce cost, improve quality, and shorten production schedules.
Ensure all testing activities comply with company safety standards, quality requirements, and customer specifications.
Support continuous improvement initiatives utilizing lean manufacturing and automated testing methodologies.

Daily Responsibilities

Depending on the project, your day may include:

Preparing test stations and laboratory equipment
Installing sensors, instrumentation, and data acquisition hardware
Running qualification and acceptance testing
Troubleshooting product or equipment failures
Reviewing engineering drawings and specifications
Recording and analyzing performance data
Collaborating with cross-functional engineering teams
Writing engineering reports and documenting test results
Supporting customer witness testing and product acceptance activities

Required Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in Engineering or another STEM discipline with 2+ years of professional test engineering experience, or a Master's degree in a STEM discipline.
Experience troubleshooting:
Test equipment
Test fixtures
Wiring harnesses
Electronic assemblies
Experience with automated testing or Lean Manufacturing/Test methodologies.
Strong technical writing skills with experience creating engineering procedures, test plans, or technical documentation.
Ability to analyze test data and communicate findings effectively.
Willingness to travel approximately 10% between the Oxnard and Goleta facilities and occasionally to customer locations.
U.S. Citizenship required.

Preferred Qualifications

Candidates with the following experience are strongly encouraged to apply:

3+ years of hands-on Test Engineering experience.
Aerospace, defense, aviation, or other highly regulated manufacturing environments.
Test automation platforms such as LabVIEW, NI TestStand, or similar automated testing software.
Experience testing and measuring electromechanical systems including:
Motors
Actuators
Position sensors
Load cells and load transducers
Motion control systems
Electronic control assemblies
Experience with electronic instrumentation including oscilloscopes, multimeters, power supplies, and data acquisition systems.
Familiarity with continuous improvement and manufacturing optimization initiatives.
Experience working within Agile or engineering project management environments utilizing Jira and Confluence.

Work Environment

This is an onsite engineering position supporting laboratory and manufacturing operations. Engineers spend significant time working directly with aerospace hardware, test equipment, instrumentation, and production teams.

The position supports both engineering development and manufacturing operations, making flexibility and collaboration essential.

Schedule

Candidates should be flexible to support multiple production shifts, including:

1st Shift: 7:00 AM – 4:45 PM
2nd Shift: 2:30 PM – 12:00 AM

Shift assignments may vary based on program and production needs.
