Job Title: Assistant Controller


Position Summary

The Assistant Controller is a key member of the corporate accounting team, responsible for overseeing day-to-day accounting operations and supporting accurate, timely financial reporting. This role plays a critical part in managing the close process and ensuring strong financial controls within a multi-unit restaurant, hospitality, or consumer retail environment.

The ideal candidate combines strong technical accounting expertise with practical operational experience in fast-paced, multi-location businesses.


Key Responsibilities

    ● Oversee daily accounting operations, including general ledger maintenance, accounts payable and receivable, payroll oversight, cash management, and fixed assets
    ● Support and help lead the monthly, quarterly, and annual financial close processes
    ● Prepare and review journal entries, account reconciliations, and variance analyses
    ● Collaborate with operations, FP&A, and leadership to support budgeting, forecasting, and financial performance analysis
    ● Ensure compliance with GAAP, internal controls, and regulatory requirements
    ● Assist with external and internal audits, as well as tax preparation processes
    ● Identify and implement process improvements to enhance efficiency and scalability in a growing, multi-location environment
    ● Supervise and mentor junior accounting staff, as applicable
    ● Support transaction-related initiatives, including financial due diligence for potential M&A or IPO activities

Qualifications

    ● Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field required
    ● CPA designation or active pursuit strongly preferred
    ● 5–15+ years of progressive accounting experience, including 3–5+ years in a supervisory or managerial capacity
    ● Corporate accounting experience within hospitality, food & beverage, restaurants, or consumer retail environments strongly preferred (multi-unit experience a plus)
    ● Advanced proficiency with ERP systems (e.g., Sage Intacct or similar) and Microsoft Excel (pivot tables, advanced functions)
    ● Solid understanding of industry-specific metrics, inventory accounting, and revenue recognition in hospitality or retail
    ● Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills
    ● Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced, entrepreneurial environment
    ● High integrity, strong attention to detail, and proactive mindset
