Job Summary

The Diesel Mechanic will perform preventive maintenance, diagnostics, repairs, and inspections on our fleet of diesel-powered motorcoaches, mini coaches, and other commercial vehicles. This role is critical to maintaining the safety, reliability, and luxury experience our clients expect from Charleston’s finest transportation provider. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, takes pride in quality workmanship, and thrives in a fast-paced environment supporting premium chauffeured and group transportation services.


Key Responsibilities

    ● Perform routine preventive maintenance and inspections on diesel engines, transmissions, brakes, suspension, HVAC systems, electrical systems, and other vehicle components in accordance with manufacturer specifications and DOT regulations.
    ● Diagnose and repair mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic issues on heavy-duty diesel vehicles, including full-size motorcoaches and mini coaches.
    ● Conduct thorough pre- and post-trip inspections to ensure vehicles meet safety and operational standards.
    ● Troubleshoot and repair engine performance problems, emissions systems, DEF systems, aftertreatment components, and fuel systems.
    ● Maintain accurate service records, work orders, and parts inventory logs using digital maintenance software.
    ● Perform brake inspections, alignments, tire services, and other general fleet upkeep.
    ● Ensure all repairs comply with FMCSA, DOT, and company safety standards.
    ● Assist with roadside assistance or emergency repairs when needed.
    ● Collaborate with drivers and operations team to minimize downtime and keep vehicles in top condition for client service.
    ● Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment in the shop.

Qualifications & Requirements

    ● High school diploma or GED required; technical/vocational school certification in diesel mechanics preferred.
    ● 3+ years of hands-on experience working as a diesel mechanic, preferably on commercial buses, motorcoaches, heavy trucks, or similar diesel vehicles.
    ● Strong knowledge of diesel engine diagnostics and repair (Cummins, Detroit, or similar preferred).
    ● Experience with hydraulic, pneumatic, electrical, and HVAC systems in heavy-duty vehicles.
    ● Valid driver’s license required; CDL (Class B or A) with Passenger endorsement is a plus (or willingness to obtain).
    ● ASE certifications (T-series for medium/heavy trucks or similar) highly preferred.
    ● Familiarity with diagnostic tools, scan tools, and multimeters.
    ● Ability to lift up to 50 lbs, stand for extended periods, and work in a shop environment with exposure to fumes, noise, and varying weather.
    ● Strong attention to detail, problem-solving skills, and commitment to safety.
    ● Reliable, punctual, and able to work flexible hours (including occasional evenings/weekends for fleet readiness).

Preferred Skills

    ● Prior experience in the transportation, charter bus, motorcoach, or luxury fleet industry.
    ● Knowledge of Allison transmissions and modern coach bus systems.
    ● Welding/fabrication skills a plus.
