This position ensures the company’s tax posture remains optimized, compliant, and aligned with broader business objectives. The role leads complex technical matters, collaborates closely with cross‑functional teams and external advisors, and serves as a key internal resource on tax issues, audits, and strategic transactions.

Reporting to the Director of Income Tax Planning & Compliance, the ideal candidate brings strong technical depth, a high sense of ownership, and the ability to execute accurately in a fast‑paced, deadline‑driven environment while balancing strategic and hands‑on responsibilities.

This role requires on‑site presence in the Irvine corporate office at least four days per week (Monday–Thursday). We work from home Fridays.

What You Will Do

• Oversee and coordinate with external advisors to prepare, review, and file timely federal, state, and local income tax, franchise tax, and information returns for corporate, partnership, and REIT entities.

• Manage internal and external tax deadlines, gather and prepare company data, review filings, and collaborate with tax consultants throughout the compliance cycle.

• Develop and implement tax strategies that reduce the company’s overall tax burden and improve efficiency within the tax function.

• Review REIT qualification matters, monitor REIT testing, and support ongoing compliance to maintain REIT status.

• Support tax due diligence for acquisitions and assist with tax considerations related to property dispositions.

• Oversee indirect tax filings, including B&O tax, gross receipts tax, business licenses, and other non‑income tax obligations.

• Assist in managing the taxable REIT subsidiary, including quarterly income tax provisions, intercompany transactions, service and income stream oversight, tax credit tracking, and the annual corporate overhead survey.

• Support income tax examinations and respond to federal, state, and local tax notices.

What You Will Need

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance; advanced degree (Master’s or Ph.D.) strongly preferred.

• 5–7+ years of progressive experience in tax planning, compliance, and return preparation across corporate, partnership, and REIT structures.

• CPA certification preferred.
