JOB TITLE:  Staff Accountant

 

 

JOB SUMMARY:

Under direction of the Accounting Management, the Staff Accountant performs the essential functions of the position, which may include, but is not limited to, duties as described below:

 

DUTIES:

1.     Performs routine accounting activities such as maintaining trust account balance reconciliation, reconciling bank account data, calculating AP (carrier) payments, and preparing wire transfer reports.

2.     Receives, researches, and resolves a variety of routine internal and external inquiries concerning account status, including communicating the resolution of discrepancies to appropriate persons.

3.     Prepares and performs check runs and positive pay uploads from NetSuite and Claims System.

4.     Preparation of monthly and quarterly Claims Reports as needed.

5.     Prepare and analyze various billing, cash application, refund, and policy status audit reports.

6.     Identify errors and discrepancies and take appropriate action including preparing reports and spreadsheets summarizing audit results.

7.     Reconcile Accounts Receivable and cash receipt data within the various systems utilized within the Accounting department.

8.     Prepare Prepaid, Fixed Asset and Accrual Schedules and post Journal entries to NetSuite.

9.     Prepare Credit Card import file, and post Journal entry to NetSuite

10.  Analyzes information and options by developing spreadsheet reports, verifying information and reconciliation preparation.

11.  Prepare and post journal entries to financial reporting system (NetSuite).

12.  Prepare monthly financial statements and actual vs. plan comparisons.

13.  Assist with regulatory filings.

14.  Develops/implements accounting procedures by analyzing current procedures, recommending changes.

15.  Answers accounting and financial questions by researching and interpreting data.

16.  Protects organization's value by keeping information confidential.

17.  Accomplishes accounting and organization mission by completing related results as needed.

18.  Complies with state and federal laws, Department of Insurance criteria

19.  Regular and prompt attendance.

20.  Other duties as assigned.

 

SKILL AND EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

 

1.               High School diploma or GED required, and college degree preferred.

2.               A three-year minimum Accounting and Financial Reporting experience required.

3.               Experience with bank reconciliations, general ledger posting, claims reporting, reinsurance, GAAP and STAT accounting principles required.

4.               Familiar with standard concepts, practices, and procedures regarding accounts payable, accounts receivable and trust account management.

5.               Familiar with standard concepts, practices, and procedures within Treasury accounting function.

6.               Ability to manage increased levels of responsibility.

7.               Familiar with Microsoft Office; ability to use the Internet and adapt to new software programs and changes in technology.

8.               Ability to set priorities and perform multiple tasks.

9.               Ability to solve practical problems; deal with concrete variables in situations; and to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

10.            Ability to communicate orally and in writing with others to explain complex issues.

11.            Receive and interpret complex information.

12.            Ability to read, analyze and interpret industry periodicals, technical procedures, and governmental regulations.

13.            Ability to consistently follow company policies and procedures.

14.            Ability to adapt to a paperless environment.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

 

1.          This is a nonexempt position which complies with alternative work schedule when     applicable.

2.          This position may require mandatory overtime as deemed appropriate by     management.

3.          The office is that of a highly technical company supporting a paperless environment.

4.          Physical efforts required include, but may not be limited to, repetitive small motor     activity, grasping, ability to sit for extended periods of time; up to 6-8 hours per day,     verbally communicating detailed and important information to others quickly and     accurately, stooping, reaching, standing, lifting light objects under 10 pounds     frequently and climbing occasionally (small step ladder to reach supplies).
