Position Summary
The Vice President of Post-Collection Operations is a senior leadership role responsible for overseeing all operational activities related to Material Recovery Facilities (MRFs), Transfer Stations, and Landfill sites. This position leads strategic initiatives to drive efficiency, improve performance, and ensure environmental compliance across multiple facilities. The ideal candidate will possess deep industry expertise, a strong operational mindset, and a passion for sustainability and safety.
Key Responsibilities
Strategic Leadership
● Develop and implement long-term operational strategies aligned with organizational goals.
● Lead initiatives focused on increasing material recovery rates, operational efficiency, and profitability.
Operational Oversight
● Direct day-to-day operations across MRFs, Transfer Stations, and Landfill sites.
● Monitor throughput, uptime, material quality, and site-specific performance metrics.
Team Leadership & Development
● Manage and mentor a team of regional directors, facility managers, and site supervisors.
● Promote a culture of safety, accountability, and continuous improvement across all levels.
Compliance & Safety
● Ensure strict adherence to all local, state, and federal environmental and occupational safety regulations.
● Champion safe work practices and foster a zero-incident culture throughout all facilities.
Financial Management
● Develop and oversee operational budgets, capital expenditures, and financial forecasting.
● Identify cost reduction opportunities and manage contracts, vendors, and procurement efficiently.
Performance & Reporting
● Track KPIs related to processing costs, diversion rates, contamination, and recovery efficiency.
● Present operational performance updates and insights to the executive team.
Capital Projects
● Lead or support infrastructure projects including facility expansions and adoption of new technologies.
Stakeholder Engagement
● Collaborate with municipalities, regulators, and community partners.
● Contribute to contract retention and business development efforts through operational excellence.
Qualifications
● Bachelor's degree in Environmental Science, Engineering, Business Administration, or related field (Master’s preferred).
● Minimum of 10 years of progressive experience in waste management, with at least 5 years in a senior leadership role.
● Extensive experience with MRF systems, transfer station logistics, and landfill operations.
● Strong leadership track record managing multi-site operations and large teams.
● Exceptional financial acumen with experience managing P&L responsibilities.
● Proficiency in strategic planning, operational analysis, and performance optimization.
