Construction Engineer
General Description
The Construction Engineer is an entry-level role responsible for supporting the planning, coordination, and execution of heavy highway, civil, and site development construction projects. Working under the direction of the Project Engineer, this role plays a key part in maintaining project documentation, tracking progress, and ensuring work is performed to specifications, timelines, and safety standards.
Key Responsibilities
● Generate and track labor and equipment cost reports to monitor budgets and billing accuracy.
● Collect and analyze daily, weekly, and monthly production quantities using Excel and SAP.
● Assist with scheduling updates and project tracking using Primavera P6.
● Coordinate submittals, purchase orders, shop drawings, and material deliveries.
● Prepare cost forecasts and track project budgets versus actual performance in SAP.
● Create and manage logs for RFIs, change orders, and claims using Excel.
● Draft field sketches and interpret contract drawings for on-site use.
● Maintain daily construction logs and photo documentation.
● Record meeting minutes and distribute action items during project meetings.
● Support monthly cost and revenue projections, and assist with owner and vendor billing.
● Help ensure construction meets design specifications and applicable local codes.
● Assist with preconstruction evaluations and reporting.
Qualifications
● Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or related field (or equivalent work experience).
● Basic knowledge of engineering and construction principles.
● Proficient in Microsoft Excel; familiarity with P6 Scheduling, SAP, Bluebeam, AGTEK, and Planswift preferred.
● Strong written and verbal communication skills.
● Ability to work independently and collaborate with project teams and field staff.
Physical Requirements
● Ability to sit or stand for extended periods during a standard 8+ hour workday.
● Occasionally required to climb, bend, stoop, and lift up to 25 pounds.
● Ability to walk on uneven terrain and work in outdoor weather conditions, including heights up to 60 feet.
● Must be able to adapt to variable work hours based on project demands.
Work Environment
● Primarily outdoor, field-based role on active construction sites.
● Regular exposure to construction noise, heavy equipment, and building materials.
● Work may involve physical interaction with substances typical to construction environments (e.g., oil, concrete, fuel).
