Job Summary

The Director of Operations sets strategic direction, manages finances, and optimizes process flow for yard/warehouse, transportation, shipping & receiving, and manufacturing functions. This leader oversees managers and supervisors across yard, fleet, and steel-plant operations, collaborating with the broader management team to ensure exceptional customer service and operational excellence.


Key Responsibilities

    Strategic Optimization – Develop and execute plans that streamline material flow, guaranteeing on-time receipts, deliveries, and building completions.
    Production & Quality – Oversee production lines and quality-control processes to exceed service standards.
    Continuous Improvement – Analyze trends, resolve problems, and drive ongoing process enhancements.
    Leadership & Coaching – Mentor managers and supervisors; foster seamless collaboration across Operations and other departments.
    Financial Management – Forecast inventory, build budgets, and control expenses for yard and steel-plant activities.
    Warehouse Efficiency – Optimize product handling, storage layouts, and equipment utilization.
    Policy & Compliance – Establish and enforce SOPs for efficiency, safety, and regulatory compliance (including DOT).
    Cost Control – Minimize overtime and R&M costs; maintain up-to-date CapEx strategies for facilities and equipment.
    Safety Culture – Champion safety initiatives and embed safety as a daily priority.
    Vendor & Supply-Chain Relations – Cultivate strong vendor partnerships to resolve supply-chain issues promptly.
    Industry Awareness – Stay current on best practices and emerging trends through continued education and networking.


Education & Experience

    ● Required: Significant experience in the building-trade industry (construction, manufacturing, or related).
    ● Preferred: Knowledge of manufacturing processes, building materials, and construction workflows.
    ● Minimum 5 years of management experience.
    ● Solid financial acumen (budgeting, cost management).
    ● Strong math, reasoning, and problem-solving skills.
    ● Excellent verbal and written communication abilities.
    ● Proven success in motivating and managing a diverse workforce.
